The Premier League returns this weekend as we start to get into the full flow of the brand new season. All twenty teams have a lot of potential to do some big things over the course of the next nine months, whether it be fighting for the title or battling against relegation. In the game that we’re going to be taking a look at today, between Arsenal and Burnley, the most intriguing aspect is the fact that it could probably go in a million different directions: and every possibility is as feasible as the last.

Arsenal

While it was starting to look like Arsenal could be in a little bit of trouble early on in the summer transfer window, they were able to bounce back in a big way by bringing in a series of high level names. Now, they’re considered to be the leading contender out of Chelsea, themselves and Manchester United to claim that elusive fourth place spot. It’s going to be easier said than done, but Unai Emery seems to have steadied the ship at the Emirates – just when everyone was starting to write him off.

Team News

Willock and Nelson are tipped to retain their places in the starting XI, with Ceballos and Pepe being tipped to make their full debuts. Luiz, on the other hand, looks set for the bench once again.

Burnley

Burnley looked like a completely different team last week to the one that was struggling to avoid relegation last season, and that can only be a good thing for them as we look ahead to the rest of the season. Sean Dyche has assembled a squad that is more than capable of pushing the club away from the bottom three, and perhaps even beyond that. As long as they play with the kind of energy and freedom that they have been so far this season, there’s no reason to believe they can’t have another impressive campaign.

Team News

Pieters is set to remain in the first team, with the expectation being that Burnley will name a completely unchanged side from the win over Southampton.

Factors to Consider

  • The game will be played at the Emirates.
  • Arsenal won their first game of the Premier League season 1-0 against Newcastle.
  • Burnley won their first game of the Premier League season 3-0 against Southampton.
  • Arsenal lead the overall head to head standings 53-33 with 21 draws.
  • In their last meeting back in May, Arsenal beat Burnley 3-1.

Conclusion

Burnley have all the potential in the world to surprise a few people over the course of the next few months, but we think this is going to be a step too far for them. The Emirates has been an absolute fortress for the Gunners for quite some time now, and Arsenal are more than capable of getting the job done here. The Clarets are going to come at them with everything they’ve got, and while we can see them getting a goal, Arsenal will end up securing the three points in a 3-1 victory.

Prediction: Arsenal win

Best Odds: 3/10
