Following the conclusion of a two-week international break, club football is back in our lives this weekend with all major leagues across Europe getting back up and running. There are still a fair few games left to play between now and the end of May, but as we approach April, it’s safe to say the final countdown has begun. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be an enticing clash between Arsenal and Leeds United.

Arsenal

The season of dreams just keeps on going for Arsenal Football Club as they sit top of the table with a nice cushion over Manchester City. The big problem, of course, is that they’re sorely lacking experience down the stretch in a title race – at least in comparison to City. Despite that, Mikel Arteta seems to have his heart and mind focused on the end goal, and we’d say they are still the favourites to go all the way.

Team News

Elneny, Salibu, Nketiah and Tomiyasu are all out of action through injury with Tierney and Partey being listed as doubtful to appear.

Leeds

Another year, another dramatic relegation battle for Leeds fans to deal with. Of course, the boys from Yorkshire will be more than up for the task, especially after the departure of Jesse Marsch. This is a team that once had a real identity behind them and even though they’ve lost their way ever so slightly, it still feels as if they have more than enough in their locker to ensure another season in the Premier League.

Team News

Gnonto and Wober are fitness concerns with Dallas, Forshaw and Adams all on the shelf due to injuries.

Factors to Consider

  • In their last meeting back in October, Arsenal beat Leeds 1-0.
  • Arsenal have won four and drawn two of their last six games.
  • Leeds have won two, drawn one and lost three of their last six games.
  • Arsenal have scored 17 goals and conceded six in their last six games.
  • Leeds have scored seven goals and conceded eight in their last six games.

Conclusion

Leeds will feel like they have nothing to lose by going for it against the league leaders, especially given their tendency to spring an upset. We expect them to really test the Gunners’ will and spirit, through both their movement on the ball and the physicality they showcase throughout the afternoon. Ultimately, though, Arsenal will be able to hold their nerve, likely scoring a late goal to maintain their spot at the top.
