After almost three months of waiting it’s finally time to say hello to the English Premier League once again. It’s the pinnacle of elite club competition in the eyes of many and with all 20 clubs having something to really fight for this season, it’s hard not to get excited about what’s to come. The campaign gets underway on Friday night under the lights in London as Brentford gear up for what should be an enticing clash with Arsenal.

Brentford

Brentford have largely been able to keep hold of their core squad and while many will underestimate what they can do this season, it’s worth remembering how much even being here means to them. They’re an attacking team that rarely shows any signs of withering away and with a “nothing to lose” attitude, we can easily picture them giving a parade of Premier League teams a bloody nose.

Team News

Ivan Toney is set to start this game despite an initial injury scare. Dasilva is a long term absence for this team whereas Jensen won’t be risked after missing pre-season.

Arsenal

Arsenal need to rediscover their identity under the leadership of Mikel Arteta because if they don’t, his tenure as manager will be over quicker than you can say “AFTV”. This club has gone from a juggernaut to a laughing stock and while that’s been a gradual progression, this upcoming season is arguably going to define where this club is going for the next few years – back to the top, or on a continued decline to the bottom.

Team News

Holding is considered to be a fitness concern here with Mari being tipped to partner White at the back. Gabriel is out through injury, Nketiah is also still on the shelf and Partey has an ankle injury that looks set to keep him out for up to three weeks.

Conclusion

It’s always important to expect the unexpected with regards to an Arsenal game in the Premier League, and when you combine that with a team competing in the competition for the first time, there’s bound to be fireworks. We think the Bees are going to start like a house on fire and while that’ll probably earn them some plaudits early doors, it’ll be interesting to see whether or not it’s sustainable. Ultimately, we think this one is going to end in a 1-1 draw in the capital.
