The Premier League season is slowly but surely coming to an end and while a lot has already been decided at the top and bottom of the table, there are still plenty of meaningful fixtures left to be played. One perfect example of that is the imminent clash between London rivals Chelsea and Arsenal that’ll go down on Wednesday evening. The Blues want to make sure of their place in the top four, whereas the Gunners are scrambling for some kind of European involvement next season.

Chelsea

Champions League final, FA Cup final, top four race – if there was any doubt over Thomas Tuchel’s ability to succeed in this job, we’d like to think it’s now disappeared. Chelsea have looked like a completely different team in the last few months and if they aren’t featured in the title race next season, we’d be stunned. Still, this league campaign is far from over, and one more big win here would surely seal their place in next season’s Champions League.

Team News

Kovacic and Christensen are the only two confirmed injury absences but in terms of the squad as a whole, the expectation is that the hosts will rotate heavily with the FA Cup final on the horizon this weekend.

Arsenal

Arsenal supporters may be focused on their shambolic owners right now and we can understand why that’s the case, but that shouldn’t mean their Premier League season is over. Yes, they’ve got problems that are going to take years to fix and there’s no way of getting around that, but they’re not done and dusted just yet. If they can win their remaining three games, there’s a chance they could be playing some kind of European football next season.

Team News

Lacazette may not be risked for this one as he continues to try and get back to a point of full recovery. Elsewhere, there are three players who have been officially ruled out of the short trip to Stamford Bridge through injury: Xhaka, Luiz and Mari.

Factors to Consider

  • In their last meeting on Boxing Day, Arsenal beat Chelsea 3-1.
  • Chelsea have won four and drawn two of their last six games.
  • Arsenal have won two, drawn two and lost two of their last six games.
  • Chelsea have scored eight goals and conceded two in their last six games.
  • Arsenal have scored seven goals and conceded five in their last six games.

Conclusion

Chelsea are the ones with a lot to think about even at this late stage of the season but even with that being the case, we still think they’re going to be too strong for Arsenal. The whole point of a schedule like this is to test what a team has in their back locker and when it comes to the Blues, we think they need a fixture like this to really build up some momentum. Therefore, we’re backing them to succeed with a somewhat unconventional 4-2 win.
