We’re getting down to the nitty gritty of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar with just eight teams remaining in the race to lift that famous trophy. There have been plenty of twists and turns along the way thus far and given the nature of the four fixtures ahead of us, we’d say that trend is pretty likely to continue as we take a look at the impending clash between Croatia and Brazil.

Croatia

The 2018 finalists have looked solid so far in this tournament which is a pleasant surprise for their fanbase, given that a lot of their supporters didn’t expect them to have as much luck this time around. What they didn’t take into consideration, though, is that this is a squad full of determined veterans – all of whom are ready and raring to give everything they’ve got for one more shot at glory.

Team News

Stanisic is a fitness concern whereas Sosa is expected to return to the squad after recovering from a virus.

Brazil

The five-time World Cup winners, in our view, look as good as they have done since capturing their latest title all the way back in 2002. They say that football was perfected in this part of the planet and with the goalscoring exploits that have been on display up to this point, how can anyone deny that this squad is capable of finally putting an end to twenty years of hurt?

Team News

Jesus and Telles are both confirmed injury absences with Sandro being a doubt after missing the last few games thanks to a hip problem.

Factors to Consider

  • The winner will play Netherlands or Argentina in the semi-finals on Tuesday.
  • Croatia have won one game and drawn three so far.
  • Brazil have won three games and lost one so far.
  • Croatia have scored five goals and conceded two at the World Cup.
  • Brazil have scored seven goals and conceded two at the World Cup.

Conclusion

Croatia, in our view, will do their best to edge this game into extra time as they were able to do in the round of 16 – and as they were also able to do throughout the course of their route to the final in 2018. Alas, we’re not so sure it’s going to matter, given that the Brazilians appear to be firing on all cylinders – which is why we’re backing them to come away with a comfortable 2-0 win and a place in the final four.

Prediction: Brazil win
