Every single game matters at this stage of the season, and with the European race still being contested by a handful of clubs right alongside the relegation battle, it’s clear to see that there are going to be some major twists and turns between now and July 26th. Today, we’re going to be taking a look at one of the most intriguing games of the week as Crystal Palace prepare to host Manchester United in a really important clash at Selhurst Park.

Crystal Palace

The win over Bournemouth at the end of June gave some fans hope that maybe, just maybe, Roy Hodgson’s side could do something special this season. Unfortunately, things have gone downhill in a hurry since then. They were battered by Liverpool, they were edged out by Burnley, and they were even given a second half schooling by the out-of-form Leicester. They improved against Chelsea but still lost before going down to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Aston Villa.

Team News

Benteke’s red card means that he will be suspended for this game, which could force Ayew to start up top on his own. Palace still have a handful of injury problems to worry about too, with Tomkins, Kelly, Cahill and Schlupp all being out of action.

Manchester United

Manchester United have been on fire as of late, ending June with three huge wins over Sheffield United in the league, Norwich in the FA Cup and Brighton in the league. They went on to tear a hole through Bournemouth in a 5-2 triumph, before putting Aston Villa to the sword with a comfortable 3-0 victory. Alas, they came crashing back down to earth at Old Trafford earlier this week when they were held to a draw by Southampton.

Team News

Dalot may have to come in at left-back after Shaw’s injury, with Williams also being a doubt due to a cut he sustained over his eye. Elsewhere, Tuanzebe and Jones have both been ruled out.

Factors to Consider

  • In their last meeting back in August, Crystal Palace beat Man United 2-1.
  • Crystal Palace have won one and lost five of their last six games.
  • Man United have won five and drawn one of their last six games.
  • Crystal Palace have scored four goals and conceded 13 in their last six games.
  • Man United have scored 18 goals and conceded five in their last six games.

Conclusion

Palace are just waiting for the season to end, and when you’re in a position such as theirs, that could spell all kinds of trouble. United are capable of really going after teams and hurting them up top, and if they are able to get started early against the Eagles, this is going to be a really long game for them. We’re expecting them to take advantage of a lethargic Crystal Palace side by dominating from start to finish, giving their top four hopes a much needed boost in the process.
