It’s time for the second leg of the UEFA Europa League semi-finals and between the two ties, there isn’t a whole lot to separate all four teams. There’s a slight advantage in favour of two of them but the landscape is still wide open – which is perfect when you consider the stage that has been set. Today, we’re going to take a look at the imminent clash between Eintracht Frankfurt and West Ham United.

Eintracht Frankfurt

They may be struggling down in the bottom half of the Bundesliga table, but we’d argue one of the reasons for that is because Eintracht Frankfurt have poured their heart and soul into making their Europa League campaign a success. The squad is hungry, the fans are even hungrier and that’s translating into one of the most historic runs in the club’s history.

Team News

Ndicka and Jakic are expected to return after missing the first leg through suspension with Kamada, Toure, Borre and Sow being tipped to return too.

West Ham

It’s near enough impossible not to respect the grind that David Moyes has put in throughout the course of his most recent stint with West Ham United. The Hammers have been stumbling along in the last couple of weeks but that’s only because of how long their season has been, leading many to wonder how much they’ve got left in the tank for the final push that lies ahead.

Team News

Dawson is back after his domestic suspension, Diop isn’t expected to be brought back into the mix and Antonio will likely be recalled to the starting XI alongside Soucek.

Factors to Consider

  • Frankfurt beat West Ham 2-1 in the first leg last week at London Stadium.
  • Frankfurt have won two, drawn one and lost three of their last six games.
  • West Ham have won one, drawn one and lost four of their last six games.
  • Frankfurt have scored eight goals and conceded 11 in their last six games.
  • West Ham have scored six goals and conceded eight in their last six games.

Conclusion

West Ham really didn’t do themselves any favours last week and with the second leg taking place in Germany, we’re not so sure they’ll be able to turn this ship around. We do think they’ll be able to spring into an early lead but once the game starts to settle in, they’ll be the ones under sustained pressure. In the end, we’re backing Frankfurt to equalise and grab a 1-1 draw – winning 3-2 on aggregate.
