The final weekend prior to the next international break is upon us as clubs across the continent attempt to get one last big performance in before taking two weeks off. The La Liga season is one that seems to have begun at a particularly high pace with every single top flight side being involved in an exciting game in one way or another, and we’re hoping for something similar when Espanyol lock horns with Real Madrid tomorrow.

Espanyol

After making their way straight back up to La Liga, Espanyol will wait to just make sure they maintain their place in the league. They’ve made a steady enough start but with just one win to their name they do need to trigger the fire power that first got them back to the dance. A game like this, with a lively crowd, could serve as the perfect opportunity to make a statement to the rest of the sides in the bottom half.

Team News

Olazabal, Calero and Herrera are all considered to be fitness doubts with Puado and Llambrich both confirmed as being on the shelf.

Real Madrid

The Carlo Ancelotti era has been a pretty strange one thus far with Real thriving domestically but really struggling in Europe. They’re no longer considered to be the most feared team around anymore given the rise of PSG and Manchester City, but perhaps that’ll be a good thing in the long run. They’ve got control of the La Liga title race and so far, it seems like it isn’t going to be quite as competitive as previous years.

Team News

Mendy won’t return until after the international break with Ceballos, Bale, Marcelo and Carvajal all still being out through injury.

Factors to Consider

  • Real Madrid are top of La Liga with Espanyol currently sitting in 14th.
  • Espanyol have won one, drawn two and lost three of their last six games.
  • Real Madrid have won four, drawn one and lost one of their last six games.
  • Espanyol have scored four goals and conceded seven in their last six games.
  • Real Madrid have scored 15 goals and conceded six in their last six games.

Conclusion

Real will want to do everything in their power to bounce back from the disappointment they experienced in the Champions League earlier this week and this feels like the perfect opportunity for them to do just that. They’re stronger, blow for blow, than Espanyol in pretty much every department, and the hosts haven’t been able to find the back of the net a whole lot so far this season. We expect a 3-1 victory for Real after a tough opening 45 minutes.

Prediction: Real Madrid win

Best Odds: 4/6
