As we move through the month of April there are still plenty of things left to be determined in English football’s top tier from the title picture to the relegation battle and beyond. Many fans feel as if they know the direction of travel with some choosing to look ahead to the Euros already, but before we get to all of that, there’s still a great deal of intrigue behind some of the remaining fixtures – and that includes Everton vs Tottenham Hotspur.

Everton

Even though they’ve had their own setbacks along the way, this season has to be viewed as a step in the right direction for Everton Football Club. In addition to their new stadium getting the green light, Carlo Ancelotti has also been able to inject new life into the squad of players he has at his disposal – and that’s even before fans return to Goodison Park. They may be on the outside looking in at the top six battle right now, but counting them out altogether would be a big mistake.

Team News

There are so many injury problems in the blue half of Merseyside that it’s almost impossible to keep track. Allan, King, Gomes and Calvert-Lewin are all fitness doubts for this one whereas Bernard, Mina, Doucoure, Delph and Gbamin have all been ruled out – although Pickford is fit enough to feature.

Tottenham

The wheels are falling off the Tottenham Hotspur bus and it’s happened a lot quicker than most folks anticipated. Jose Mourinho was brought into the club as a man who could fundamentally shift the narrative and get Spurs back to winning ways. In short, that hasn’t happened consistently enough, and even if he wins the League Cup that probably isn’t going to be enough to save his job – unless he springs a miracle or two and gets Tottenham back into the top four.

Team News

Dier is expected to be dropped after a poor showing against Manchester United which could allow Alderweireld to make his way back into the side. Elsewhere, Doherty and Davies are the only other two confirmed injury absences.

Factors to Consider

  • In the reverse fixture, Everton beat Tottenham 1-0.
  • Everton have won one, drawn two and lost three of their last six games.
  • Tottenham have won two, drawn one and lost three of their last six games.
  • Everton have scored three goals and conceded seven in their last six games.
  • Tottenham have scored eight goals and conceded 10 in their last six games.

Conclusion

Neither team has been able to cover themselves in glory over the course of the last few weeks – for very different reasons. They both still possess European ambitions but whether or not they’re actually going to fulfill them is another matter, and while this may be set up for some Friday night entertainment, we actually think it’s going to be a fairly dull game. Our official scoreline prediction is 1-1 with both teams likely feeling as if they could’ve done more.

Prediction: Draw
