The Premier League returns this weekend following a two week break courtesy of the internationals. While it was interesting to see who got closer to qualifying for Euro 2020, it’s even more interesting to see the chaos of the Premier League unfold. Today we’re going to be taking a look at the upcoming encounter between Everton and West Ham United. While both of these teams should probably be aiming for a top half finish as a solid measuring point, that doesn’t really seem to be the case for either.

Everton

Marco Silva needs to turn things around pretty quickly at Goodison Park, because at this moment in time, he seems to be in a spot of bother. His tactical prowess has practically been non-existent throughout the early portion of the Premier League campaign, leaving the Toffees stranded down in the relegation zone. The board needs to make the right decision regarding if and when to get rid of him, because if they don’t, a relegation scrap could soon become a very realistic possibility.

Team News

Coleman’s red card in Everton’s last game ensures that he will miss out on this one, with Sidibe being expected to come into the starting XI. Delph is a doubt with a muscle problem, whereas Walcott should be available following a late fitness test.

West Ham

West Ham have already gone above and beyond what they probably realistically expected this season, and Manuel Pellegrini deserves a great deal of praise for that. However, the important part for the club now is going to be ensuring that they sustain this forward-thinking momentum of theirs. They may have lost the last time out, but if the big boys continue to slip up, there’s no reason why they can’t be in with a serious shout of making a run at the top six.

Team News

Snodgrass is a doubt after sustaining a minor calf problem that ruled him out of Scotland’s squad, with the only other absences being Antonio, Fabianski and Reid.

Factors to Consider

  • In their last meeting back in March, Everton beat West Ham 2-0.
  • Everton have won two and lost four of their last six games.
  • West Ham have won two, drawn two and lost two of their last six games.
  • Everton have scored seven goals and conceded 11 in their last six games.
  • West Ham have scored seven goals and conceded eight in their last six games.

Conclusion

Both sides will be a little bit anxious, Everton because they desperately need a win from somewhere and West Ham because they’re at a point now where a place in the top six doesn’t seem all that ridiculous. We think both teams will get on the scoresheet, but in the end, neither will be able to take the game by the scruff of the neck and get the win. The Toffees will probably just be relieved not to have lost another game, but the Hammers could wind up being disappointed with just a point.
