With La Liga making a return to action this weekend, Barcelona will make the trip to the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez when they face off against Getafe on Saturday night.

Getafe

Starting with the hosts, while a bright start to the New Year might have had many in Getafe’s camp feeling that they had put their summer issues behind them, José Bordalás’ men came crashing back down to earth prior to the international break. While they might have collected seven points from their opening three La Liga contests, the Blues were blown away thanks to what quickly turned into a sluggish 3-0 defeat against Real Sociedad earlier in the month. Signing off last year’s interrupted campaign by failing to win any of their final six top-flight appearances on the bounce, Getafe couldn’t have wished for a tougher return to action at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez this weekend. Hit with a 2-1 defeat when they last faced off against Barcelona as they traveled to Catalonia back in February, the Blues have lost each of their last four straight meetings against the former champions and they have also lost each of their last four meetings against Saturday’s guests on home soil.

Team News

Aside from Amath Ndiaye who is a minor doubt, Getafe have no new injuries or suspensions to worry about.

Barcelona

As for the visitors, while Barcelona might have been disappointed to have only collected a point against Europa League winners Sevilla prior to the international break, Ronald Koeman has made an eye-catching start to his tenure at the Nou Camp. With it no secret that they have their sights firmly set on reclaiming their La Liga crown this season, the former Holland boss saw his new squad open the 2020/2021 campaign with a 4-0 romp against Villarreal last month. Barca have now managed to collect seven points from their opening three contests and are desperate to fully put that Champions League defeat against Bayern Munich over the summer behind them. While Barca might have been glad to keep hold of Lionel Messi over the summer, it is well worth keeping an eye out for the hugely talented Ansu Fati this weekend. Including a brace against the Yellow Submarine, the 17-year-old has already recorded three La Liga strikes so far this season with no player in Spain’s top-tier recording more.

Team News

Barcelona have confirmed that they will once again be without number one keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, meaning deputy Neto will take his place between the sticks.

Elsewhere, Saturday’s guests will also be without Samuel Umtiti and Jordi Alba.

Key Factors to Consider

  • Including a 2-1 victory when they last faced off against Getafe back in February, Barcelona have won their last four straight matchups against Saturday’s hosts.
  • Ronald Koeman’s men have also won each of their last four straight trips to the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez.
  • 17-year-old Ansu Fati has recorded three La Liga goals in as many appearances so far this season.
  • Barcelona have scored over 1.5 goals in eight of their last nine matchups against Getafe.
  • Continuing on from last season, Saturday’s hosts have managed to win just a trio of their last 16 La Liga appearances.

Conclusion

While Barcelona might have been disappointed to have only collected a point against Europa League winners Sevilla prior to the international break, the former champions will be hugely confident of extending on their unbeaten run this weekend. Watching 17-year-old starlet Ansu Fati already bag three goals in his opening three La Liga contests this season, Ronald Koeman has made an impressive start to his tenure at the Nou Camp. With Getafe last seen getting hit with a thumping 3-0 defeat away at Real Sociedad earlier in the month, it is also hard to look past their woeful record against Saturday’s guests. Losing each of their last four straight meetings against Barca at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez, we’re backing a similar outcome as La Liga makes its return to action.

Verdict: Barcelona win

Best Odds: 7/10
