The international break has come to an end and in its place, we’ve got a whole host of exciting games on the cards across Europe – and especially in Serie A. The one that particularly stands out this weekend will see old rivals Lazio and Juventus meet once again in a fixture that, based on the league table, could serve as a really good indicator of where both clubs are heading this season.

While they may have some of the most talented attacking options in the league, Lazio are vulnerable at the back and that much is obvious. Their aim here is going to be playing possession football and waiting for their openings, because whenever they get them, it’s a good bet that they’ll find the back of the net. If they do go ahead, though, keeping hold of it could prove to be a struggle.

Juventus aren’t the free-flowing team they once were and because of that, they’ve had to adapt their style to how the league is playing out this season. They’re more physical, they focus on set pieces, and they’re forced to stop the flow of the game if the pace is starting to get away from them. If they can maintain a structure then they should do well here but based on what we’ve seen from their campaign, it’ll be a struggle.

Factors to Consider

  • In their last meeting back in March, Juventus beat Lazio 3-1.
  • Lazio have won two, drawn three and lost one of their last six games.
  • Juventus have won three, drawn one and lost two of their last six games.
  • Lazio have scored nine goals and conceded eight in their last six games.
  • Juventus have scored nine goals and conceded seven in their last six games.

The chaotic nature of this rivalry, combined with the inconsistent nature of how they’ve been playing this season, should lead to a really fun encounter with a lively crowd to go alongside it. We expect both sides to get on the scoresheet and lots of physicality to be on display, with the game not really having the best flow as a result. In terms of a prediction, we’re going to go with an entertaining 2-2 draw.
