Finding what has been a recent boost over the past week, Chelsea will make the trip to the King Power when they meet a struggling Leicester on Saturday afternoon.

Leicester

Starting with the hosts, while Leicester might have opened February enjoying a much-needed boost, there is no doubt that the Foxes have come crashing back down to earth. Last seen putting in a nightmare display away at relegation scrappers as they were hit with a 1-0 loss against Southampton, Brendan Rodgers’ side are at the heart of their own bottom-three scrap. Opening this weekend’s fixtures holding just a three-point buffer from slipping into the drop zone, the one-time Liverpool boss once again finds a huge amount of pressure on his shoulders. Shockingly crashing out of the FA Cup on February 28th as they suffered a 2-1 defeat at home against Championship outfit Blackburn, Leicester have now lost each of their last four domestic contests on the bounce. Likewise, including a 3-0 drumming at the hands of Manchester United last month, the Foxes have failed to bag a single strike in their previous three Premier League appearances.

Team News

Still dealing with long-term injury issues, Leicester will once again be without the trio of Johnny Evans, Ryan Bertrand and James Justin here. Likewise, suffering a recent ankle knock, Youri Tielemans is once again a major doubt on Saturday afternoon.

Having to settle for a spot on the bench in last weekend’s 1-0 loss away at Southampton, Jamie Vardy could be in line for a full recall at the King Power.

Chelsea

As for the visitors, while Graham Potter might still find plenty of pressure on his shoulders in west London, Chelsea have claimed a crucial boost over the past week. Mounting a Champions League comeback at Stamford Bridge as they snatched a 2-0 victory against German giants Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday night, the Blues also punched their quarter-final ticket. Likewise, last seen in Premier League claiming a gritty 1-0 win at home against relegation scrappers Leeds, the ex-Brighton boss will be calling on his side to make another statement here. However, still knowing that they need a minor miracle if they’re to secure a top-four finish this season, Chelsea have continued to gain a reputation for their rather glaring issues on the road. Including a 2-0 defeat at the hands of London rivals Tottenham on February 26th, the former European champions have failed to win any of their last 10 straight contests outside of SW6 – a run that stems all the way back to October 25th.

Team News

Picking up a knee injury last month, veteran defender Thiago Silva will not feature for the remainder of the month. Likewise, Chelsea will make the trip to Leicester on Saturday afternoon without the likes of Benoit Badiashile, Edouard Mendy and Cesar Azpilicueta.

Ending his seven-match run without a goal against BVB in midweek, German international kai Havertz should once again lead Potter’s attack.

Key Factors to Consider

    • When the two sides last met back on August 27th, Chelsea picked up a 2-1 victory at Stamford Bridge.
    • However, despite their Champions League success in midweek, Chelsea have failed to record a single away victory from their previous 10 attempts.
    • Including last weekend’s 1-0 loss against Southampton, Leicester have lost each of their last four straight domestic contests across all formats.
    • Likewise, Saturday’s hosts have drawn a blank in each of their previous three consecutive Premier League appearances.
    • Each of Chelsea’s nine matchups across all formats have finished with under 2.5 goals.

    Conclusion

Eventually booking their Champions League quarter-final ticket earlier in the week, Chelsea will be desperate to keep up their recent flurry when they travel to the King Power on Saturday afternoon. Now securing back-to-back victories over the past week, the Blues should be smelling the chance to lay down another marker here. However, still trying to find some much-needed fluidity in the final third, we could be treated to another low-scoring affair this weekend. Likewise, along with Leicester losing each of their previous four domestic contests on the spin, they too have failed to record a single Premier League strike from their last three showdowns. With Chelsea bagging just one goal away from Stamford Bridge in their previous four appearances, we are expecting chances to come at a premium.

Verdict: Both teams to score – No
