The Premier League is back this weekend with a series of intriguing games for us to sink our teeth into. One such game is Leicester City and Watford, with both teams finding themselves in an interesting position. They’re on the outside of the European places looking in as they’re positioned in 9th and 10th, with both harbouring realistic aspirations of shocking the world and breaking into the top six. They’ve got a long way to go, but both sides have the kind of infrastructure to make something special happen.

Leicester

In the face of tragedy, Leicester City have done a fantastic job of refocusing their attention and getting down to business. They’re a brilliantly run club and they have the potential to do big things once again this season, with a top tier squad full of passionate players who will live and breathe Foxes football. They may not have the same momentum that they did during their title winning campaign a few years ago or anything like that, but as long as they’re situated comfortably in the top half, there’s always a chance of them pushing further up the table.

Team News

Harry Maguire will be a big miss with a knee injury with Rachid Ghezzal, Daniel Amartey and Vicente Iborra either being doubts or ruled out entirely. James Maddison will also make his return from suspension.

Watford

While Watford may chop and change how they do things quite a lot, they certainly know how to keep people guessing – and we mean that in a good way. The Hornets have had some great moments already throughout the course of the season, and the question now is whether or not they can keep it up between now and May. It’s going to be hard given the quality of the teams around them, but if they strengthen in the January transfer window, then truly anything is possible.

Team News

Jose Holebas and Sebastian Prodl are back in training, although Adalberto Penaranda will miss out with a foot injury.

Factors to Consider

  • The game will be played at Leicester’s King Power Stadium.
  • Leicester have won one, drawn four and lost one of their last six games.
  • Watford have won two, drawn one and lost three of their last six games.
  • Leicester lead Watford 28-20 in the overall head to head standings with 17 draws.
  • In their last meeting back in January, Leicester won 2-0.

Conclusion

This is an intriguing game to us because both teams mirror one another in very different ways. We think that the Foxes are going to play it smart and will invite the pressure on from Watford, because we all know they’re going to try and force the issue early on. After riding out the storm we think they’ll start to take control, but they won’t go too gungho – heading into the break goalless. Then, half way through the second half they’ll get the goal that they need, before edging their way towards a smart 1-0 home win.

Prediction: Leicester win
