The final two teams with flawless records in the Premier League come together on Saturday evening as Liverpool and Arsenal clash at Anfield.

The hosts currently sit top of the table having claimed victories in their opening two games of the season. Meanwhile, Unai Emery’s Gunners head to Merseyside aiming to claim top spot having also notched six points so far this season.

Liverpool

Despite a somewhat underwhelming start to the season, Jurgen Klopp’s Reds have no reason to not be confident heading into this mammoth clash at Anfield. Having claimed the UEFA Super Cup against Chelsea, they have followed that up with two consecutive Premier League wins, equalling the club’s own record of 11 in the process. They last tasted defeat in the league back in January against eventual champions Manchester City.

They got away fortunately in their second game of Premier League action this season though. Goals from Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino put the Reds in what seemed like a comfortable like a comfortable position against Southampton. The final throws were made slightly uncomfortable when an Adrian mistake saw former Red Danny Ings pull a goal back for the Saints. Klopp’s men were able to grind out the result though, which could potentially be the mark of title winners that they can still earn three points even when they’re not at their best.

Team News

Goalkeeper Alisson remains ruled out with the injury that he picked up against Norwich so Adrian will once again be deputising between the sticks. Midfielder Naby Keita is also restricted to the sidelines with a groin injury. Elsewhere, long-term absentee Nathaniel Clyne is still out with a serious knee injury.

Arsenal

From one team that has been slightly unconvincing despite their 100% record to another in the form of the Gunners. Emery’s troops kicked their season off with a tight 1-0 success against Newcastle United before following that up with a hard-fought 2-1 win against Burnley at home. Those wins mean that the Gunners have won two consecutive Premier League games at the start of the season for the first time since 2009. They now have a wonderful opportunity to make it three consecutive league wins at the start of the season for the first time since the beginning of the 2004/05 campaign. The two victories also mean that the Gunners are now on a run of four consecutive victories in all competitions. The Gunners have not won five games in a row since October 2018.

An aspect that supporters will hope to see improvement in this season is Arsenal’s form away from home in the Premier League. The team only picked up 25 points in 19 games away from the Emirates last season and only won three out of their last 13 away fixtures. With their win against Newcastle though, they will hope that they have left their travel sickness firmly behind them.

Team News

Emery could have two midfielders back in the fold for Saturday’s clash with Mesut Ozil and Granit Xhaka both edging close to full fitness. Hector Bellerin, Konstantinos Mavropanos, Kieran Tierney and Rob Holding all remain ruled out. Summer signing Nicolas Pepe has yet to start for his new employers so will be gunning for his first 90 minutes.

Key Facts To Consider

  • Liverpool have the better all-time head-to-head record between the two teams (W87, D61, L78)
  • The Reds won the last game between the two 5-1 in December 2018
  • Arsenal are winless in their last eight games against Liverpool
  • An average of five goals has been scored in the last ten matches between the two sides
  • Mo Salah has had a hand in seven goals (four goals, three assists) in his last five appearances against Arsenal

Conclusion

The match at Anfield really should be an entertaining watch #with both teams keen on putting down a marker for the rest of the campaign. Both teams are brilliant in attack so there could well be some goals, and considering the recent clashes between the two teams, that could well be a clever bet. On this occasion though, Liverpool being on home soil will just give them the edge in a thrilling game.
