With the FA Cup coming up this weekend, a whole host of Premier League fixtures are upon us in some rare midweek action in the top flight. Today we’ll be taking a look at Manchester United vs Burnley – a game in which the two sides are separated by just 35 miles. While it may not be the most notable of rivalries it’s certainly a fixture that has given us plenty to talk about over the years, and there’s a chance that could be the case once again tomorrow night.

Manchester United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is well aware of the task that lays ahead between now and the end of the season, and if they don’t come away with either fourth place or a trophy, some serious questions are going to be asked of the Norwegian. One week they look like they can take on the world and then the next, it really is embarrassing to see how far they’ve fallen since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club. Which version of United are we going to get on Wednesday night? It’s anyone’s guess.

Team News

Rashford is set to miss out for the next six weeks which means he’ll join Lindelof, Pogba, McTominay, Tuanzebe and Rojo on the sidelines with Fosu-Mensah also being a doubt.

Burnley

Burnley have been flirting with the threat of relegation for a while now, and we’re at something of a crossroads for a club. They linger back and forth between pushing on towards something great, but after their win over Leicester, they seem to be building up a bit of momentum once again. They’ll come into this with no pressure on their shoulders and as we all know, that’s an incredibly dangerous position for United to be in.

Team News

Barnes and Gudmundsson are the only two injuries that Dyche has to deal with for the short trip to Manchester, with the expectation being that he’ll name a similar starting XI to the team that beat Leicester.

Factors to Consider

  • In their last meeting back in December, Manchester United beat Burnley 2-0.
  • Manchester United have won two, drawn one and lost three of his last six games.
  • Burnley have won two and lost four of their last six games.
  • Manchester United have scored six goals and conceded seven in their last six games.
  • Burnley have scored seven goals and conceded 11 in their last six games.

Conclusion

We can’t see Burnley causing too many issues for United at Old Trafford, and given that we already saw this game play out just a matter of weeks ago, we don’t see anything that has indicated this will be any different. The hosts will be able to deal with the Clarets from a defensive standpoint, and they should have enough to edge themselves over the finish line with a narrow win. It almost certainly isn’t going to be an attractive victory, but it’s a win nonetheless and that’s all they can ask for.
