With the slate of European football now being a distant memory and with the election finished, it’s time to focus on what we all know and love: Premier League football. There are plenty of intriguing games for everyone to sink their teeth into over the course of the next few days, from the top to the bottom of the table. The game we’ll be looking at today will be contested between two former giants who are attempting to build themselves back up towards relevancy: Manchester United and Everton.

Manchester United

Big wins over Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City have suddenly given fans reason to believe that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the man for the job after all. There’s still an awful long way to go but with the January transfer window being on the horizon, positive steps are being taken. They have a squad that appears to be battling for one another in every single which way, although some have questioned just how long that’s going to last.

Team News

Martial and Greenwood are in the running to start with Fosu-Mensah, Bailly, Rojo, Pogba and Dalot all being out of action with Shaw being questionable. Lingard missed training during the week but should feature.

Everton

Getting rid of Marco Silva simply had to be done in order for Everton to avoid slipping further and further towards the possibility of a relegation battle. As opposed to getting stuck in the madness of all that, though, there’s a renewed sense of hope that they can push on towards even bigger and better things. Duncan Ferguson seemed to inspire some real passion in their last outing, and now, it’s all about sitting back and seeing whether or not they’re able to properly maintain that.

Team News

Digne and Walcott are both doubts but the hope is that they’ll be fit in time to play, whereas Gomes, Gbamin, Martina and Delph have all been confirmed as ruled out for this one.

Factors to Consider

  • In their last meeting, Everton beat Manchester United 4-0.
  • Man United have won three, drawn two and lost one of their last six games.
  • Everton have won two, drawn one and lost three of their last six games.
  • Man United have scored 14 goals and conceded nine in their last six games.
  • Everton have scored nine goals and conceded 12 in their last six games.

Conclusion

Momentum is a funny thing and both teams have that going for them at this moment in time. Whether or not they’re able to sustain it is a different matter entirely. We think this is a game in which United’s growing attacking presence is going to balance their own defensive strengths really well, which Everton just aren’t going to be able to deal with. Big Dunc will lead a surge early on in the game, but they’ll fall away in what will likely be his final bow as caretaker manager of the Toffees.

Prediction: Manchester United win

Best Odds: 4/5

Bookmaker: bet365
