Another international break has been and gone and now, it’s time to dive headfirst back into the English Premier League. There is a whole host of fascinating games for fans and media alike to sink their teeth into over the course of the next few days, and that includes a clash at Old Trafford between Manchester United and West Bromwich Albion. With both clubs currently residing in the bottom half of the table, they’ll be hoping that a win can lead to the tide turning for them this season.

Manchester United

It wouldn’t be a stretch to suggest that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s position as Manchester United manager is vulnerable right now, regardless of how well they may be doing in the UEFA Champions League. We’re talking about a club that has gone from being nailed on favourites for the title to simply settling for a place in the top four, and even though Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure had a lot to do with that, the handling of the club since then has been truly atrocious.

Team News

There are certainly some concerns heading into this one for United with Bailly and Shaw being ruled out and Lindelof, Maguire, Rashford and Maguire all being injury doubts.

West Brom

West Bromwich Albion supporters would’ve been fearing the worst upon promotion back to the Premier League, coming into the top flight with as little momentum as any promoted club in the last decade or so. Slaven Bilic has desperately been trying to get the best out of his squad but he’s been thoroughly unsuccessful up to this point, and as we look ahead to the rest of the campaign, their best hope will be that three other clubs happen to be even worse than them.

Team News

The Baggies have two players who have tested positive for COVID-19 but they have yet to reveal their names, they’re hoping Robinson will be available, and the only other two injury problems they have are Field and Robson-Kanu who will both miss out.

Factors to Consider

  • Man United are in 14th place with 10 points whereas West Brom are in 18th place with three points.
  • Man United have won three, drawn one and lost two of their last six games.
  • West Brom have drawn three and lost three of their last six games.
  • Man United have scored 11 goals and conceded five in their last six games.
  • West Brom have scored four goals and conceded nine in their last six games.

Conclusion

Neither of these teams has been able to show what they’re really capable of so far this season, and our expectation is that this is going to continue for large portions of the campaign. However, one of the two seems far more competent going forward than the other – and that’s why we’re backing Manchester United to just about edge their way through to victory here. It isn’t going to be pretty, but it is going to further the concerns in the Black Country heading into a busy winter period.
