The Premier League is back once again this week with a whole host of fixtures as we edge closer and closer toward the end of the campaign. There’s still a whole lot left to be determined at both ends of the table and that much is obvious, but it’s especially true in the relegation battle. Today, we’ll take a look at what should be a fascinating encounter between Nottingham Forest and Southampton.
Nottingham Forest fans have been subjected to a lot of uncertainty, drama and excitement in equal measure since they returned to the Premier League. Nobody ever really knows what’s coming next with this club and given how their season has gone, we expect that trend to continue. Either way, they are going to serve as must-watch television between now and the end of the month.
Johnson, Danilo and Scarpa are fitness doubts with the following players out of action: Williams, Biancone, Wood, Boly, Richards, Henderson, McKenna, Colback and Shelvey.
Southampton, quite clearly, are the favourites to go down to the Championship given the fact that they are bottom of the league. They’ve spent 11 long years back in the top flight and even though they’ve done a solid job of fighting in recent weeks, it hasn’t been nearly good enough. Their only hope is to get a win here and then pray that the momentum of such a result can carry them to a great escape.
Onuachu is doubtful to appear with Livramento, Perraud, Larios and Salisu all being injured.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting back in January, Forest beat Southampton 1-0.
- Forest have won one and lost five of their last six games.
- Southampton have drawn one and lost five of their last six games.
- Forest have scored seven goals and conceded 12 in their last six games.
- Southampton have scored five goals and conceded 14 in their last six games.
Neither of these teams are particularly skilled when it comes to keeping the ball out of their own net, and we do expect some fireworks when they lock horns on Monday. Southampton have very little to lose given their position in the table whereas Forest have a tendency to get nervous under pressure, and in the end, we’re hoping it leads us down the path of a thrilling 2-2 draw.
