We’re already into the second set of fixtures for the UEFA Champions League group stage and with so much going down in the first load of games, it’ll be really interesting to see who can build up some momentum with so little time to prepare this season. Today, we’re going to take a look at what should be a pretty intense encounter between Real Madrid and RB Leipzig.

Real Madrid

Real Madrid are probably the biggest club in world football and if you wanted any further proof of that, just go and watch their remarkable run to yet another European Cup triumph last season. They truly did overcome the odds and now, both domestically and in the Champions League, they’re playing with the kind of freedom that could lead to quite a terrifying campaign for their rivals.

Team News

Militao, Benzema and Vazquez have all been ruled out through injury with Odriozola tipped to join them on the sideline.

RB Leipzig

The competitive nature of the German Bundesliga is slowly but surely beginning to wear on a team that has a pretty strange existence as it is. They aren’t a particularly beloved club due to the Red Bull element of their run but they’ve been building up a great squad in years gone by, and now, it’s all about finally finding the kind of chemistry that can really take them to the next level.

Team News

Klostermann and Olmo are both injured but outside of that, the visitors are expected to have a similar starting XI to the team that dominated Dortmund.

Factors to Consider

  • Madrid are currently 2nd in Group F whereas Leipzig are 3rd.
  • Madrid have won their last six games in all competitions.
  • Leipzig have won three and lost three of their last six games.
  • Madrid have scored 18 goals and conceded five in their last six games.
  • Leipzig have scored 15 goals and conceded 10 in their last six games.

Conclusion

When Leipzig let a game go, they really let a game go – but we don’t think they’re going to fall into that trap at the Bernabeu. We expect to see them frustrate Real, attempt to play them at their own passing game and keep it fairly tight at the back, a far cry from the Shakhtar loss. Eventually, though, a late goal from the hosts will hand them all three points, because they just can’t stop winning.

Prediction: Real Madrid win

Best Odds: 8/15
