The international break is a forgotten memory now as we instead focus our attention on the return of the European leagues. One of those top leagues is Serie A, which is really starting to heat up at both ends of the table. A string of clubs are starting to put Juventus under some pressure at the top, whereas down the bottom, it’s a free-for-all. Today, we’re going to take a look at what should prove to be a fascinating clash of styles between Sassuolo and Lazio.

Sassuolo

Sassuolo are finally starting to settle themselves down in Serie A after six years of chaos. From relegation battles to qualifying for the Europa League, this club that was once regarded as being a ‘minnow’ is now preparing for a surge in momentum over the next decade or so. Before all of that, however, they need to put together a few more wins in order to start talking about a place in the top half as opposed to another tussle to avoid being situated in the bottom three by the time May rolls around.

Team News

Berardi is set to miss out after picking up an injury on the international break, with Rogerio, Pegolo, Ferrari, Mazzitelli and Chiriches all still being out of action.

Lazio

Lazio are the closest contenders to Juve and Inter Milan at the top of the Serie A table, and yet, their recent losses to Celtic in the Europa League have planted a seed of concern as to whether or not they’re capable of making much more of a stir this season. They certainly seem to be fairly consistent in the league but you never know when that could change, especially when you consider just how tight it is across most of Serie A.

Team News

Marusic is out of action due to injury with Correa being tipped to start alongside Immobile, but aside from that, Lazio aren’t expected to make too many changes.

Factors to Consider

  • Lazio are currently third in Serie A, whereas Sassuolo are down in 13th.
  • Sassuolo have won two, drawn one and lost three of their last six games.
  • Lazio have won four and lost two of their last six games.
  • Sassuolo have scored 11 goals and conceded 13 in their last six games.
  • Lazio have scored 14 goals and conceded eight in their last six games.

Conclusion

Sassuolo are going to come at Lazio because we know they’re capable of scoring goals, and we also know that they’re often involved in pretty entertaining games. They like to go out on their shield and that’s what we’re picturing here, with Lazio not really being able to get to grips with the high tempo of the game. They’ll manage to edge out a draw from what is bound to be a tough away game, but Sassuolo will still be able to take a point away in their attempt to push themselves away from the relegation scrap.
