While the Euros and Copa America may now officially be in the books, that doesn’t mean we’re done with the onslaught of international tournaments this summer – courtesy of the Gold Cup. It’s often pretty easy to know what kind of direction we’re heading in for an event such as this, and thankfully for fans, we’ve been gifted with the game that everyone wants to see: United States vs Canada.

United States

The USMNT was always going to do a good job of bouncing back after not qualifying for the 2018 World Cup, and yet, we somehow think they’re starting to go above and beyond the initial expectations put in front of them. They’re playing some really nice football and while gelling as a team unit is going to be the most important factor for the squad moving forward, they look better than they have done in a long time.

Team News

Cannon is set to be a fitness doubt after missing out on the last game with Arrola also struggling with a hamstring problem. Williamson and Roldan, however, will expect to feature after earning an assist apiece.

Canada

In anticipation of the 2026 World Cup, which will be partially hosted in Canada, this national team has been focusing on bringing through exciting, youthful stars. For the most part they’ve been doing a really good job and now, we’re really starting to feel some momentum growing behind the nation in terms of their interest in the sport. It isn’t going to happen overnight, but the pieces are falling into place.

Team News

Larin has made his way into the starting XI and done an excellent job of it in the absence of David and Davies, with Hoilett also hoping to continue playing an important role in how this team sets up.

Conclusion

These two nations will likely be battling it out for a long time to come in many different sports, and funnily enough, we actually think they’re both on quite a positive trajectory in the world of football – or, soccer, as they’d so cruelly put it. The US are in the process of building a really fun squad whereas the Canadians are scoring goals like it’s going out of fashion. Therefore, we think an enthralling 2-2 draw could be on the cards tomorrow night.
