Premier League preview: Norwich City v Swansea

Norwich City believe they can take a significant step toward Premier League survival on Saturday when Swansea visit Carrow Road.

City will be hoping to turn the clock back three months when they collected their only away win of the season – 4-3 in Wales.

The importance of this match to Chris Hughton’s men took on extra significance after the 1-0 defeat at relegation-haunted Wigan last Saturday.

Added to the dilemma facing Norwich is the fact that they have won only once in 14 league matches in 2013 and scored just five goals in that time.

So it is crunch time for Hughton’s men and no one knows that more than winger Robert Snodgrass, who is looking for a victory to take his side to 37 points for the season – edging closer to that magical 40 figure.

“Everybody needs to be pulling now,” the Scot told the Norwich Evening News.

“We need a very busy, loud Carrow Road to edge us across that white line and try to get three points against Swansea.

“The way the Everton game was, they were willing us to try to get the ball in the back of the net and we need that ready for a big push now.”

Four of City’s remaining seven games are at Carrow Road where they have only lost to Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea.

“Our home games have been important but we’ll not just turn up there and get results; we’ve got some tough games and there will be many twists and turns between now and the end of the season, we know that,” Snodgrass said.

Norwich will have goalkeeper Mark Bunn available for selection after he completed a one-match ban for the red card he received at Sunderland.

And midfielder Anthony Pilkington is expected to have recovered from a hamstring injury.

Meanwhile, Swansea are looking to end a run of three successive defeats.

It is Swansea’s worst league sequence since September, and it has come after they reached the all important 40-point survival mark.

The dip in results suggests Michael Laudrup’s players have taken their foot off the pedal as the League Cup winners do not have much left to play for this season.

“We have seven games to go and even though we have 40 points we have a lot to play for,” Dutch international goalkeeper Michael Vorm told This Is South Wales.

“All the players have to look in the mirror and be honest with themselves, and ask have I really done everything I can to make this season end well?

“I look at myself and I can say I have done everything I can and if everybody does we can finish the season well.”

Swansea reached 40 points by edging a tight game against Newcastle a month ago, but the remainder of March brought disappointment.
