Premier League trio fails in deadline day move for Leipzig star

According to various reports coming from England, the trio of Premier League clubs – Everton, West Ham and Southampton – failed in a deadline-day approach for the highly-rated RB Leipzig striker jean-Kevin Augustin.

All three English sides were desperate to bolster their options up front before the January transfer window closes but the Bundesliga side rebuffed their attempts to get the French forward.

Leipzig are pursuing the Champions League football next season and were unwilling to weaken their squad at such a delicate moment of the season. They are sitting in fourth place in the standings with 31 points after 19 rounds but still have Eintracht breathing down their neck for the only remaining place in Europe’s elite competition.

Augustin joined Leipzig from PSG last summer in a transfer worth €13 million.

Saints manager Ralph Hasenhuttle worked closely with the French forward during his time at Leipzig while Everton already tried to work out a deal for Augustin in December. As for West Ham, they were looking to sign the Frenchman as a replacement for injured Marko Arnautovic.
