Proposed Messi contract offer to include release clause

The Mirror understands that Lionel Messi’s proposed new contract with Barcelona includes a release clause of €300million.

The Argentine superstar is set to be offered fresh terms on a deal that would run until the summer of 2021 though is considering his future after the Catalan club’s performance in the recently closed transfer window.

Moves for Phillipe Coutinho of Liverpool and Paris Saint Germain’s Angel Di Maria failed to materialise while fellow forward Neymar was sold to PSG for a world record transfer free.

Manchester City have been continuously linked with a move for the thirty year old with their manager Pep Guardiola having worked with him at the Nou Camp.

Messi has spent his entire career at Barcelona racking up almost six hundred appearances in all competitions scoring over five hundred goals while he has won a whole host of major honours including eight La Liga titles, five Copa Del Reys and four Champions Leagues.
