Manchester United have won the Champions League trophy for the third time ever, beating Chelsea 6-5 on penalties.

Cristiano Ronaldo headed home for 1-0 in the 27th minute but Frank Lampard levelled just before half time.

Chelsea went on to have most of the chances in the second half and extra time, with Drogba hitting the right post and Lampard’s effort bouncing off the crossbar.

A penalty shootout was needed to point out the winner of the 2007-08 Champions League.

The first four penalties were scored, but Cristiano Ronaldo had his effort saved by Petr Cech.

John Terry had the opportunity to decide the match but slipped away just when kicking the ball, and hit the right post.

Anderson, Kalou and Giggs went on to score but Nicolas Anelka had his spotkick saved by Edwin van der Sar, who secured United’s third trophy.
