Ewa Pajor scored twice to help Barcelona to a commanding 6-2 win over Clasico rivals Real Madrid in the Women’s Champions League quarter-final first leg.

Barcelona’s fast start kept them in control throughout, and even with a brace from Linda Caicedo at the other end, Madrid have a mountain to climb next week.

It took Pajor just six minutes to break the deadlock as she slid in to poke home Alexia Putellas’ low cross, before Esmee Brugts rose high to meet Vicky Lopez’s cross, and though Misa got two hands to it, she could only send it looping into her own net.

Madrid halved the deficit 30 minutes in, with Linda Caicedo latching onto Athenea del Castillo’s wonderful throughball before rounding Cata Coll to slot into the empty net.

Barcelona took just two minutes to restore their two-goal cushion, however, as Irene Paredes ghosted away from her marker to thump Claudia Pina’s corner beyond Misa.

Pajor got her second in the 57th minute, darting between Madrid’s centre-backs to meet Clara Serrajordi’s pass in behind, and she coolly fired past the goalkeeper while one-on-one.

Vicky Lopez delivered a fifth blow to the hosts just seven minutes later as Madrid were cut open once more, and Lopez stretched out a leg to guide in a first-time finish.

Though Caicedo responded promptly after the restart, cutting inside to bend a lovely strike into the top-left corner, Putellas ensured Barcelona finished on top, confidently converting from the spot after Caroline Graham Hansen was brought down in the box.

Data Debrief: Barcelona take Clasico bragging rights again

Barcelona have now won 22 of their 23 all-time meetings across all competitions with Madrid (L1), and have won their last nine Clasico matches on the road by an aggregate score of 36-4.

And Pere Romeu’s side were clinical; they scored with six of their seven shots on target, and overperformed their 3.28 expected goals (xG) by some margin.

Madrid as a team generated 0.88 xG, which is just over half of what Pajor managed on her own (1.67 xG) as the forward led the charge for Barcelona.
