Real Madrid's large lead atop the Primera División is now ten points after a 2-0 win at Real Racing Club Santander with Villarreal CF now their nearest challengers due to their 2-0 home success against Real Valladolid CF.

Raúl González's 17th league goal of the season on 13 minutes sent them on their way to securing the three points and took the Madrid talisman to his best tally in the top flight since the 2000/01 season.
The 30-year-old provided the slightest of touches to divert Robinho's sublime cross past Toño but they could not confirm their success until the game's final minute of added time when two substitutes, Javier Ángel Balboa and Gonzalo Higuaín, combined for the latter to stroke in the clinching goal.

Villarreal took advantage of FC Barcelona's 0-0 draw against RCD Espanyol on Saturday by moving into second spot with their triumph over Valladolid. Nihat Kahveci (15) opened the scoring and the home side confirmed their ascent when Santi Cazorla doubled their lead moments after half-time. The result leaves the visitors perched two points above the relegation zone.
CA Osasuna are only a point better off after they were defeated by RC Deportivo La Coruña. The away side took the points thanks to a 65th-minute penalty from Sergio González and surged into the top ten off the back of a fourth successive win. Valencia CF, two points above the bottom three, suffered a 5-1 defeat by Athletic Club Bilbao in the late game. Finally, bottom side Levante UD surprised Getafe CF 3-1 with three goals in a 13 minutes spell either side of half-time while Real Murcia suffered a 4-1 home reverse at the hands of RCD Mallorca for whom Daniel Guiza scored a hat-trick.
