Harry Redknapp has advised Arsenal’s Wojciech Szczesny to concentrate on football after the goalkeeper mocked Tottenham’s form slump.

Having been the dominant force in London for the majority of the campaign, three defeats in succession have seen Spurs’ 10-point advantage over their local rivals reduced to just one within the last three weeks.

Arsenal by contrast are experiencing a resurgence and have won five consecutive Premier League games.

Speaking ahead of Arsenal’s win over Newcastle on Monday that took them to within a point of Tottenham, Szczesny said: “Hopefully, Chelsea can challenge them, and I would be really pleased to see them in the Europa League next season.”

“I would not settle right now for fourth place. The momentum is with us. Hopefully (Tottenham) are looking over their shoulders.”

Ahead of Spurs’ FA Cup quarter-final against Bolton this weekend, 65-year-old Redknapp commented on the remarks, advising the Arsenal goalkeeper to limit his remarks about other teams.

“He does have a lot to say, doesn’t he?” Redknapp said of Szczesny. “He’s a fantastic goalkeeper. I’m a big fan of his and he could end up being one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.”

“But he does come out with some stuff, doesn’t he? Having a go at Chelsea the other day and God knows what.”

“Young guys like that should just concentrate on their football. He’s a fantastic goalie. He should just keep doing what he does. That’s what he should do.”

“I don’t like it. I don’t think there is any need for it.”
