Robertson was close to Stoke move before Liverpool

“Stoke were quite interested in me. Mark Hughes had liked me and I think there was a wee bit of chat with them”.

Those are the words of Andy Robertson who, in a recent interview with Open Goal, confirmed that he was potentially on the verge of joining Stoke City last summer as opposed to moving to Anfield. The youngster signed on the dotted line for a fee of around £8 million, and now, he has been able to establish himself as one of Jurgen Klopp’s most important pieces of the puzzle.

Few could’ve imagined that the Scot would make such great progress both domestically and internationally in such a short space of time, but he’s already well on his way to becoming a true Liverpool legend. While it doesn’t mean anything now, it’s interesting to consider how differently his career could’ve gone if he’d wound up at the Britannia Stadium.
