Sabitzer to leave Leipzig?

With his contract expiring in 2022 and a new one not very likely to be signed, Marcel Sabitzer could be allowed to leave RB Leipzig next summer – for a suitable fee. That is according to SportBild in Germany, who also claim Tottenham Hotspur are interested in bringing the midfielder to north London. The story has wound its way through a number of outlets, but apart from Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano saying Spurs are one of the clubs interested in the Austrian, all tracks lead back to SportBild.

Apparently, Spurs could let Tanguy Ndombele, their club-record signing, leave, with Barcelona named as keen on his services, and they see Sabitzer as a suitable replacement.

Primarily a central midfielder, who can be an auxiliary winger at need as well, the 26-year-old has made 16 appearances for Leipzig in all competitions so far this season, scoring three goals and assisting as many. Being still in the Champions League and well within a shot at the Bundesliga title, Leipzig aren’t very likely to agree to a sale in January, but their hand is likely to be forced in the summer if they wish to avoid the risk of losing the player for free.
