Mohamed Salah will end his trophy-laden nine-year stint with Liverpool at the end of the 2025-26 season, the club confirmed on Tuesday.

Salah, who only signed a two-year contract extension with the Reds last April, has reached an agreement with Liverpool to part ways once the current campaign is over.

The 33-year-old arrived on Merseyside in 2017 from Roma for a reported £36.5m fee and has gone on to become a huge part of Liverpool’s recent success.

Salah has gone on to win eight major honours during his time with the club, which includes two Premier League titles and their sixth Champions League success in 2018-19.

During his time at the club, Salah has made 435 appearances in all competitions, scoring 255 goals as well as providing 119 assists for his team-mates.

He is third on Liverpool’s all-time scoring list, behind only Ian Rush (346) and Roger Hunt (285), and will leave Anfield having amassed several Premier League accolades.

Salah has scooped two Premier League Player of the Year awards, the latest of which came in 2024-25 after a stunning individual season led Liverpool to a 20th top-flight title.

The Egyptian’s 281 goal involvements for Liverpool in the Premier League (189 goals, 92 assists) are the most by any player for a single club, having surpassed Wayne Rooney’s haul of 276 for Manchester United (183 goals, 93 assists).

His 284 goal contributions overall in the English top-flight is a total only bettered by Rooney (311) and former Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers forward Alan Shearer (324).

He also tied the single-season goal involvement record last season, with 47. Salah won the Golden Boot and Playmaker awards by leading the goals and assists charts.

Salah had already captured both awards in the same season once before, in 2021-22, with Harry Kane the only other player to do so in 2020-21.

In 2024-25, he was also just two assists from matching the single-season record of 20, shared by Thierry Henry in 2002-03 and Kevin De Bruyne in 2019-20.

Salah has struggled to replicate that form this season for Arne Slot’s side, registering just 10 goals and nine assists from 34 outings in all competitions.

The Liverpool attacker’s future was put into doubt in December last year after claiming the club had “thrown him under the bus” following a poor run of form, but he has since returned to the fold and will now look to help the Reds qualify for the Champions League, and potentially win the competition.
