Rangers cut Hearts’ lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership to three points as they thrashed 10-man Kilmarnock 5-1 at Ibrox Stadium.

Having watched Hearts lose 1-0 to St. Mirren on Tuesday, while Celtic’s scheduled trip to Aberdeen was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, Danny Rohl’s side had a major opportunity to land a blow in the title race.

They were helped on their way by Dom Thompson’s fourth-minute red card, which came after he dragged Djeidi Gassama down inside the area, with the resulting penalty being tucked away by James Tavernier.

Rangers had to wait until the 58th minute to extend their lead, with Bojan Miovski curling home, then Andreas Skov Olsen came off the bench to get his first goal for the club.

After Greg Kiltie tapped home to reduce Kilmarnock’s deficit, another Rangers substitute – Oliver Antman – made it 4-1, with Mikey Moore adding some gloss in stoppage time.

Rangers are now second in the table outright, three points clear of Celtic, who have a game in hand.

Data Debrief: More home comforts for Gers

Rangers have now won six straight league games at Ibrox, having only won four of their previous 13 (D5 L4).

They have also won 14 of their last 16 league meetings with Kilmarnock, whose boss Neil McCann has lost on all four of his league trips to Ibrox, by an aggregate score of 17-2.
