Shakhtar sign Eduardo from Arsenal

Shakhtar Donetsk signed Croatian international striker Eduardo from English Premier League side Arsenal on a four-year deal on Wednesday, the Ukrainian champions said on their website.

Reports said that Shakhtar paid the Gunners seven million euros for the 27-year-old Croatian forward who joined Arsenal in July 2007.

In November last year Eduardo signed a new “long-term” contract with Arsenal after making a successful comeback from a horrific injury which sidelined him for almost a year.

The Brazilian-born forward broke his leg and dislocated his ankle in February 2008 but re-established himself as a first-team regular at the Emirates when Robin van Persie and Nicklas Bendtner were sidelined by injury.

Eduardo made a total of 67 appearances, scoring 20 times in all competitions for the Gunners.

He scored 12 goals from 22 starts in his first season with Arsenal, having previously made his name in Croatia with Dinamo Zagreb, netting 73 times in 111 appearances, and was the first ever player to score a hat-trick in the Dinamo v Hadjuk Split derby match.
