Shaw pens new Saints deal

Luke Shaw has pledged his future to Southampton by signing a new five year contract with the club, the Daily Mail understands.

The highly-rated left back recently enjoyed a breakthrough season at St. Mary’s, making his league debut back in November having impressed for the England under 17’s.

He was set to feature in last month’s European under 21 Championships in Israel, though injury ruled him out of the tournament.

The boyhood Chelsea fan, who turned 18 on Friday, had been linked with a move to both Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford, but will continue his development on the South Coast.

Shaw credited manager Mauricio Pochettino’s influence on his career, and he believes the Argentine will continue to do so over the coming season.
Shaw said: ‘The manager has done a lot for me –especially for my fitness – and this year is going to be a big year for me’.

The teenager is the second player to sign a contract with the Saints this week, following the arrival of Victor Wanyama from Celtic on Thursday.
