Sime Vrsaljko set for Serie A return

Despite only joining Atletico Madrid last summer, Croatia defender Sime Vrsaljko could be set for a swift return to Serie A, Corriere dello Sport reports.

Former Sassuolo defender moved to La Liga in a €16 million deal last summer and was introduced to the first-team midway through the 2016/17 campaign when he replaced injured Juanfran Torres at right-back.

The Croat suffered a knee injury which ruled him out for quite some time which resulted in Sime Vrsaljko losing his place in the team.

The 25-year-old defender has thus far made only three La Liga appearances for Colchoneros while he also made a single appearance both in Copa del Rey and Champions League.

The Italian media outlet claims Serie A leaders Napoli have set their sights on out of sorts Atletico Madrid man who is regarded as a perfect replacement for Ghoulam, who is expected to miss the remainder of the season through a knee ligaments injury.

Having already played in Italy, Vrsaljko could be an instant fit into Napoli squad and a momentarily solution for Napoli’s problems at the back in their race for Scudetto.

Partenopei currently stand at 19/20 price to lift the Serie A trophy this season.
