Competition: National League

Market: Sutton United win

Odds: 7/5 @ 888sport

Smelling a real chance to climb to the top of the National League in midweek, Sutton will travel to Meadow Lane on Tuesday evening.

Starting with the hosts, while Notts County might have opened 2021 with their sights set on landing a play-off spot this season, the Nottinghamshire outfit have rather worryingly fallen off the boil. Now in a real uphill battle, The Magpies could only come from behind to grab a point away at Altrincham over the weekend. Gaining a reputation for their issues at the back, they have really struggled to find their feet under new boss Ian Burchnall. Facing what should be another tough test at Meadow Lane on Tuesday evening, Notts have managed to collect just a pair of points from their last six National League matchups, a run that stems back to April 5th. It should also be noted that along with a 1-0 loss against Eastleigh last time out on home soil, Tuesday’s hosts have lost three of their last four matchups in Nottinghamshire.

As for the visitors, while Notts County might be continuing on an extended rut, Sutton should find the mood in their camp at a real high. Knowing that victory this week will see them leapfrog Torquay back to the top of the table, many have tipped The U’s as the leading contender in the title chase. Bouncing back from that 1-0 defeat against Eastleigh last month, Matt Gray’s side were last seen over the weekend picking up a routine victory on home soil. Landing a 3-1 win against Aldershot in Surrey, Sutton have collected nine points from their last four National League matchups. Smelling a golden chance to lay down another marker and move one step closer to a Football League spot for next season, we’re backing an away victory for Gray’s title contenders in midweek.
