With a golden opportunity to extend their buffer at the top of the A-League to double digits, Sydney will make the trip to the McDonald Jones Stadium on Friday morning.

Starting with the hosts, putting in yet another worrying display in their 4-0 hammering away at Melbourne Victory over the weekend, it is quickly becoming a campaign to forget for the Jets. Losing four of their last five and failing to record an A-League victory over the past five weeks, a huge part of Newcastle’s continued issues has been down to some glaring struggles at the back. Opening 2020 sat bottom of the table and the mood around McDonald Jones Stadium at a season-low, Ernie Merrick men have shipped 15 goals in just their last four appearances and they were hit with a 4-1 defeat when they faced off against Sydney back in November.

As for the visitors, while the mood in Newcastle’s camp might be at a low, Sydney have continued to take the A-League by storm. Coming off the back of a 2-1 win over Adelaide, Head Coach Graham Arnold finds his side opening 2020 with a nine-point buffer at the top of the table and they have tasted defeat just once in any of their opening 11 appearances. Led by leading marksman Adam Le Fondre who already has 12 strikes to his name this season, Sydney have continued to shine in the final third and there is no doubt that the runaway leaders should be confident of extending their winning run when they make the trip to the McDonald Jones Stadium on Friday morning.
