Three possible destinations for Inter Milan misfit Christian Eriksen in January

While Christian Eriksen might have made a brief cameo appearance off the bench in Inter Milan’s 3-0 victory against Sassuolo over the weekend, the Danish playmaker finds himself in the midst of an Italian nightmare.

Failing to make any real impact after securing a cut-price £16.9million move from Tottenham earlier in the year, the 28-year-old has only had his future in Serie A thrown into more doubt following comments made by Inter chief executive Giuseppe Marotta.

Admitting that Eriksen does not fit into Conte’s plans going forward, the former Spurs man was described as a ‘functional’ opportunity to sell in the January transfer window.

Desperately seeking first-team action heading into next year’s delayed European Championships, we have taken a look at three reported possible destinations for the midfielder come January.

Arsenal

After spending six-and-a-half seasons with Tottenham until earlier in the year and previously seen as a fan favourite with Spurs supporters, last week’s reports linking Eriksen with a move to Arsenal really sent shockwaves across the Premier League.

With the Gunners getting hit with a 2-1 defeat against Wolves on Sunday night, Mikel Arteta’s side are screaming out for some much-needed creativity in the final third after what has been their worst domestic start since 1981.

With Mesut Ozil still firmly in North London exile, ESPN have claimed that Tottenham’s arch-rivals have been offered the chance to complete a shock deal in January and bring Eriksen back to England.

However, while it might have been reported that Inter would be seeking a fee of roughly £27million to part ways with their makeshift midfielder, ESPN does claim that Eriksen would consider a move that would certainly upset many at his former employers.

Manchester United

Along with numerous reports in the British press linking Eriksen with a move to Arsenal come January, Italian media have continued to claim that another Premier League outfit are in the race to land the 28-year-old.

While the playmaker might have been heavily linked with a potential move to Old Trafford earlier in the year, any kind of deal failed to materialise and the Reds instead brought in both Bruno Fernandes and Donny van de Beek.

However, with a string of speculation surrounding Paul Pogba’s future in Manchester, Football Italia have claimed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have reignited their interest and Inter could be eying a potential swap move.

The report suggests that Conte has taken a liking to United midfielder Fred and they would be more than willing to use Eriksen as a bargaining chip.

Borussia Dortmund

Away from a pair of Premier League giants, it has been reported that German heavyweights Borussia Dortmund have chucked their hat in the ring and are also keen on making a move for Eriksen in January.

With the former Spurs man seeking regular minutes before next year’s delayed European Championships comes around, Italian outfit TuttoMercatoWeb have claimed that this is not the first time BVB have shown their interest in the 28-year-old.

Reporting that they had previously approached Inter back in October over a potential loan switch, Dortmund boss Lucien Farve still remains keen on the prospect of linking up with Eriksen in January.

Offering him the chance to continue playing in the Champions League, it is thought by many in Italy that a move to rural Germany is the most appealing to the Inter misfit.
