Top five most in-demand Serie A players this summer

With the top European seasons now finished attention turns to the European Championship and also the transfer market.

Although a lot of transfer deals will be delayed until after the Euros there is still likely to be some activity in the coming weeks.

There has been quite a bit of speculation about players currently plying their trade in Italy’s Serie A. Here is the five players who have caught my attention:

1) Edinson Cavani (Napoli)

Although Napoli finished outside the Champions League spot this season the Azzurri did win the Coppa Italia and it seems to have convinced the Uruguayan that his future lies in Naples. However, Cavani is hot property after firing home 32 goals in all competitions this season.

The 25 year-old is highly-rated and has been linked with a move away from Naples for a while now. Italian champions Juventus have linked with a move for Cavani, as have English champions Manchester City.

Cavani is a natural born goal scorer and those are very rare at the top of the game these days. Cavani would command a major fee but that’s unlikely to stop the likes of Manchester City pursuing an interest in him.

2) Ezequiel Lavezzi (Napoli)

Cavani’s teammate at Napoli Lavezzi is also attracting admiring glances from the Premier League, reportedly from Chelsea and Liverpool. The 27 year-old has played a crucial part in Napoli’s rise in reputation in recent seasons. Lavezzi is an important creative cog in the Napoli machine and is the man that often supplies Cavani’s goals.

He has also scored 11 goals in all competitions this season. The forward is believed to have a release clause of around £26million in his contract and Napoli have accepted that he could leave this summer.

Premier League Liverpool and Italian giants Inter have also been heavily linked with a move for the forward. However, it seems that big-spending French side PSG are the favourites to sign Lavezzi with PSG boss Carlo Ancelotti keen on strengthening his squad for a title challenge next season.

3) Thiago Silva (AC Milan)

Brazilian defender Thiago Silva is attracting interest from the likes of Manchester City and Spanish giants Barcelona. The 27 year-old has grown in stature since arriving from Brazilian side Fluminense in 2009. He is now regarded as one of the best centre-backs in the Italian top flight.

Silva has stated that he doesn’t want to leave Milan but money talks. Milan are not exactly in great financial health at the moment and with PSG also believed to be interested acquiring the centre-back you never what may happen this summer.

4) Stefan Radu (Lazio)

Lazio captain Stefan Radu is attracting the interest of a number of teams, most notably Arsenal and surprise, surprise Manchester City. The 25 year-old defender is highly-rated and has been compared to former-Roma defender Christian Chivu.

The Romanian international can play at centre-back or full-back. Arsenal are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements and Radu could prove a valuable asset. City seem to be looking at every quality player available at the moment. Radu is believed to be interested in a move to the Premier League.

5) Alessandro Del Piero (Juventus)

The Juventus legend leaves Juve this summer after nearly two decades playing in the black and white stripes. He has already insisted that he has no wish to play for any other Italian club, so that means a move abroad is on the cards.

Although he is very much in the veteran stages of his career at 37 years of age, Del Piero still has a bit to offer. It seems he doesn’t know his next destination but has been linked with Premier League clubs QPR and Tottenham in the past.

A more likely move would be to America’s MLS. He has a fantastic football brain, even if his legs are not what they used to be. Del Piero would definitely be a good addition to the MLS.

Who will be the big movers in Italy’s Serie A this summer?
