Tottenham 1/2 to beat Aston Villa in Wednesday’s Premier League showdown

Competition: Premier League

Market: Tottenham win

Odds: 1/2 @ 888sport

Looking to extend their stay in the top-six, Tottenham will welcome Aston Villa to North London in a must-win showdown on Wednesday evening.

Starting with the hosts, managing to build off of West Ham’s latest slip-up, Tottenham suddenly find themselves sat in pole position to clinch another top-six finish. Immediately bouncing back from that defeat at Elland Road earlier in the month, Ryan Mason’s temporary squad were last seen over the weekend landing a deserved 2-0 victory against Wolves on home soil. Welcoming back fans on Wednesday evening, Spurs have continued to impress in North London. Including that routine victory against Wolves last time out, The Lilywhites have won eight of their last nine home fixtures across all formats. Smelling another chance in midweek, it is well worth keeping an eye out for attacking MVP, Harry Kane. Once again finding the net on Sunday afternoon, the England skipper has racked up 22 Premier League strikes so far this season and will once again lead Tottenham’s charge.

As for the visitors, throwing away the lead at Crystal Palace over the weekend and eventually having to settle for a 3-2 defeat on the road, Aston Villa have struggled with their form at the back end of the year. Freefalling away from the European spots and now in an uphill battle to find a route back into the top-half, Dean Smith’s side have won just one of their last seven Premier League matchups, a run that stems back to April 4th. Showing some issues at the back and with a single clean sheet to their name since the start of March, it should also be noted that Villa hold a worrying record against Wednesday’s opponents. Hit with a 2-0 defeat earlier in the season and losing each of their last six straight meetings against Spurs, we’re backing a similar outcome in midweek.
