Tottenham set for Alderweireld contract talks

Tottenham Hotspur are ready to begin contract talks with defender Toby Alderweireld, according to the Mirror.

The Belgium international is wanted by Serie A side Inter Milan though Spurs are not interested in selling, and are keen to secure the former Ajax man’s services long term.

His current deal still has two years remaining on it and is worth around £50,000-per-week though the centre-back wants parity with the clubs top earners Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris, who both earn roughly double that figure.

Alderweireld followed manager Mauricio Pochettino to the North London club in the summer of 2015 with the pair having worked together the season before at Southampton.

Since then, he has made eighty-eight appearances in all competitions scoring six goals while he was named as Spurs’ Player of the Season twelve months ago, when he was also selected in the Premier League PFA Team of the Year.
