Tottenham to offer players-plus-cash for McCarthy

Tottenham Hotspur are lining up a players-plus-cash deal for Wigan Athletic’s James McCarthy, the Mirror understands.

Spurs boss Andre Villas Boas is keen on the Republic of Ireland international, but is reluctant to meet the Latics’ valuation.

The 22 year old has made over 100 Premier League appearances for the North West club, and was one of their stand-out performers in their triumphant FA Cup campaign last season.

Nonetheless the Glasgow born star, who has also been linked with a move to former manager Roberto Martinez’s Everton, was unable to help the club avoid relegation to the Championship.

Tottenham may offer £12m, including players, though Wigan are unlikely to settle for anything less than the £20m price tag they have placed on their prize asset.

Teenager Harry Kane, who has spent most of his short career so far out on loan, is one player likely to be included in Spurs’ opening bid.

The striker most recently turned out for Leicester City, where he scored five goals in fourteen Championship appearances during the final two months of last season.

If it means letting Livermore, Parker, Jenas go then do the deal. There could even be one of the younger players included who are not going to make it at Spurs.
He’s talented, he’s young and at least he will have sell on value if he gets upset sitting on the bench more than he would like to.
That said he has a lot of players to compete with.
I can only see Spurs doing this deal if they can move on one or two of their players who are older or not good enough

Are you kidding me??? He didn’t even stick out in the Wigan side?!?!?! This is another poxy signing.. Tom huddlestone, Scott Parker and Tom Carroll are all better than McCarthy n they can’t even get in the spurs side.. Wast of time.. Focus your enery on a striker or 2 n a left back. We’ve got a centre mid and a new winger..

According to the “Mirror” his family have already been down to London house hunting. Looks like this is a done deal and I suppose £12m plus players is not a bad deal (depending on who and how many).
