With German football once again taking center stage in midweek, a struggling Schalke will be desperate to end what has been a woeful run of form when they travel to Fortuna Dusseldorf on Wednesday night.

Starting with the hosts, while Fortuna Dusseldorf may have put in an eye-catching display over the weekend, Uwe Rösler’s side threw away all their hard work in dramatic fashion. Shipping two late goals and eventually having to settle for a point on their travels, the former Brentford boss still finds his side sat three points adrift of safety after drawing their last four Bundesliga matches on the bounce. Including marking their return from the enforced break with a sluggish 0-0 draw against rock-bottom Paderborn last week, Fortuna also have a growing reputation for their issues on home soil. Including that stalemate against their bottom-three rivals, the Whites have failed to land a victory at the Merkur Spiel-Arena since opening the New Year.

As for the visitors, putting in what was another woeful display and hit with a 3-0 drumming against fellow strugglers Augsburg over the weekend, Schalke boss David Wagner finds his position coming under increasing scrutiny. Freefalling out of the European spots and in the midst of their worst run of the season so far, the former Huddersfield coach has seen his side land just a single point out of a possible 15 in their last five appearances and the Blues have picked up just a sole Bundesliga victory since January 17th. A huge part of Schalke’s recent issues during the second half of the season has come down to some rather glaring problems in the final third. Drawing another blank last weekend, Wednesday’s guests have now recorded just a single Bundesliga goal in over 550 minutes of action.
