Two sides looking to top their group on the Nations League finale on Wednesday night, Greece will host Slovenia in Athens.
Starting with the hosts, knowing that they need three points to top the group in midweek, Greece have impressed many with what has been a real resurge over the past 12 months. While they might have failed to secure a spot at next year’s delayed European Championships after a woeful start to qualifying, Ethniki did win each of their final three appearances on the spin and have dragged that momentum into their Nations League run. Last seen over the weekend when putting in a professional display on foreign soil, Greece clinched a deserved 2-0 win away in Moldova and are yet to taste defeat in this year’s tournament. Recording another clean sheet on Sunday and making a string of alterations at the back, it should be noted that John van’t Schip’s men have conceded just a single goal in over 350 minutes of action.
As for the visitors, managing to mount what was a stunning charge as they snatched all three points off of Kosovo on home soil over the weekend, Slovenia are certainly another nation who will find the mood in their camp at a real high. Making the trip out to Athens holding a two-point buffer at the top of the group, Matjaž Kek’s men are unbeaten across all formats in 2020, including back-to-back victories on foreign soil. A huge part of Slovenia’s revival over the past 12 months has been thanks to their continued performances at the back. While Kosovo might have managed to snatch an underserved consolation strike on Sunday night, that was the only goal that the midweek guests have shipped since opening the year. With the two nations playing out a 0-0 stalemate when they met back in September, we’re backing another low-scoring contest on Wednesday.
