Market: Under 2.5 goals

Once again turning our attention to the Nicaraguan Premier League this weekend, top-two contenders Diriangén will make the trip to Municipal Jalapa late on Saturday night in what could be a low-scoring encounter.

Starting with the hosts, while Jalapa might still find themselves sat in pole position to secure a play-off spot this season, the Yellow and Blacks could only muster what was a sluggish 0-0 stalemate against rock-bottom Las Sabanas in midweek. Failing to find the net in back-to-back appearances for the first time since October, there is no doubt that Leónidas Rodríguez’s men will be glad to make a return to home soil this weekend. Aside from a 1-0 defeat against fellow top-six contenders Chinandega last week, Jalapa are unbeaten in their other nine home matchups across all competitions, winning seven of those contests. However, it should also be noted that the hosts have seen each of their last six consecutive matchups at the Estadio Alejandro Ramos end with under 2.5 goals at full-time.

As for the visitors, while Diriangén might have shown some real inconsistencies over the past three weeks, Caciques did manage to pick up what could be a crucial three points earlier in the week. Landing a deserved 3-0 win against Chinandega and reclaiming their spot in the top-two, Head Coach Tyron Acevedo will now be desperate for his side to make some rather drastic improvements on the road. Failing to win any of their last three matchups on their travels, including back-to-back away defeats, Diriangén should take some solace from their eye-catching record against Saturday’s hosts. Remarkably, the White and Blacks are unbeaten in all 11 of their previous meetings against Rodríguez’s side. Despite holding a dominant record against Jalapa, it should be noted that each of the last three meetings between the two sides have seen under 2.5 goals and we’re backing a similar outcome this weekend.
