With the coronavirus pandemic wreaking havoc across the footballing globe, we here at Soccer News have turned our attention to the midweek Nicaraguan Primera Division fixtures. In a battle between two sides slumping it in the bottom half of the table, rock-bottom Las Sabanas will host Real Madriz on Wednesday night.

Starting with the hosts, despite putting in what was a plucky display against a resurging Real Estelí on the road last week, Las Sabanas could only slump to a 1-0 defeat and have continued on what has been a woeful start to the season. Already sat three points adrift at the foot of the table and recording just six points this year, the White and Blues are also in the midst of a 12-match winless run across all competitions. Along with failing to record a victory on home soil since the 21st of October, Wednesday’s hosts have continued to show some glaring issues in the final third. Drawing another blank last week, no team in the Nicaraguan Primera Division have recorded fewer strikes than Las Sabanas so far this season and they have bagged just a pair of goals in over 500 minutes of action on home soil.

As for the visitors, despite a woeful start to March may have seen Real Madriz endure a four-match losing run, Los Somoteños should be boosted by their eye-catching back-to-back victories. Picking up a deserved 2-0 win against local rivals Deportivo Ocotal on home soil last week, the Whites now see only their goal difference keeping them outside of the play-off positions. However, while Wednesday’s guests might be enjoying their brightest run since the start of February, Real Madriz have continued to show plenty of problems on the road. Luís Eduardo Montaño’s men have lost each of their last five consecutive away fixtures and have failed to score more than a single strike in any of their away matchups since August. In a battle between two sides who have continued to show plenty of issues in the final third, we’re backing another low-scoring encounter on Wednesday night.
