Knowing that nothing less than three points will be acceptable this weekend, Werder Bremen will make the trip to rock-bottom Paderborn in what should be a cagey contest.

Starting with the hosts, while Paderborn may have all but confirmed an immediate return to the Bundesliga II, Steffen Baumgart’s side should take some solace from a shock comeback last week. Bagging an injury-time equalizer against Champions League chasers RB Leipzig, the top-flight returners are simply looking to end their campaign on a high. However, failing to pick up a single victory since the 25th of January, there is no doubt that Baumgart will have a growing headache over his side’s continued issues on home soil. Including being blown away by Borussia Dortmund last month, Saturday’s hosts have collected just a single Bundesliga point at the Benteler-Arena over their last six appearances.

As for the visitors, despite enjoying what was a much-needed three-match Bundesliga unbeaten run last month, Werder Bremen have once again come crashing back down to earth. Now in a real uphill battle to extend on their 32-year stay in the Bundesliga, the former champions are coming off the back of a devastating 1-0 defeat at home against Wolfsburg last weekend. Sat four points adrift of safety and also blown away by fellow strugglers Eintracht Frankfurt when opening June, Florian Kohfeldt’s men have continued to show some glaring issues in the final third. Drawing back-to-back blanks since their brief purple patch last month, Bremen have managed to bag just a sole Bundesliga strike in over 400 minutes of action. In a meeting between two sides showing a string of problems in front of goal, we’re backing a scrappy contest at the Benteler-Arena.
