With German football once again taking center stage this weekend from behind closed doors, Erzgebirge Aue will make the trip to relegation scrappers Nurnberg on Friday evening.

Starting with the hosts, after crashing out of the Bundesliga last season, it has been nothing short of another disastrous campaign for Nurnberg this time around. Marking their return from the enforced break with a late 1-0 defeat away at St. Pauli last weekend, Head Coach Jens Keller has seen his side now lose three of their last four Bundesliga II outings. Opening Friday’s contest holding just a single point buffer from slipping into the relegation play-off spot, a huge part of Der Club’s continued issues this year have come down to some glaring inconsistencies on home soil. Aside from picking up what was a pair of much-needed victories against fellow strugglers Dynamo Dresden and Sandhausen either side of the festive break, Nurnberg have failed to win any of their other nine second-tier appearances at the Max-Morlock-Stadion.

As for the visitors, marking their return with a 3-1 victory against Sandhausen, Erzgebirge Aue are a side simply looking for some stability. Opening Friday’s contest sat eight points adrift of the top-three and almost stuck in Bundesliga II limbo, the Purples have continued to show plenty of cause for concern on their travels. Including what was a shocking 2-1 defeat away at rock-bottom Dynamo Dresden in their last matchup away from the Erzgebirgsstadion, Head Coach Dirk Schuster has now seen his side pick up just a sole point on the road out of a possible 18 since the end of November. Even more worrying for Erzgebirge Aue, they have remarkably failed to land a single Bundesliga II victory on their travels since opening the 2019/2020 campaign.
