Rafael van der Vaart is Real Madrid’s fifth Dutch player. This was announced on the mid-fielder’s official website.

Real Madrid reportedly pay around 13 million Euros for the player, with Hamburger SV earning an additional fee for possible successes in the coming season. The total fee therefore could increase to 15 million.

Van der Vaart could not hide his enthusiasm in the statement issues on his official website: “As everybody might know I have always wanted to move to Spain, because I have a strong bond with that country. Now I’m going to play for Real Madrid… it’s a dream come true!”

The midfielder, who began his career at Ajax before becoming a key player at German side Hamburger SV, also thanked his current employer:

“Looking back at the last couple of years, I’m extremely happy that I’ve had the chance to experience playing for HSV. No club, and no set of fans will treat you with more hospitality than they do! Thanks very much for that.”

The player went on to say that the presentation is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
